That’d be me. I’ve fallen behind posting again, which probably isn’t that big a deal to the one or two of you who read this semi-regularly. So it’s Saturday afternoon now, and I’ve run three times since I last wrote on Wednesday night.
On Thursday I ran with the Irish Snug Running Club again. I really enjoy running with the club. It’s great to meet other runners, talk strategy and hear stories about their running past. This week I ran with a guy from Iowa who ran cross country in college. That’s obviously much different from a marathon, but I’m willing to listen to any advice, especially over free dinner and discount drinks.
Last night Francis and I ran over to a high school near my apartment in hopes of using their track to run our 800-meter repeats. When we arrived, we were dismayed to find the gates locked and a sign that warned of arrest for trespassers. We stood there for a few seconds before deciding the police had better things to do than bust a couple of guys on a track, and we slipped between the gap in the gates. We ran our repeats without incident and ran home. I think we averaged about 2:54 per 800. I stopped by Liks Ice Cream with a friend last night and had some Texas Turtle and Yellow Cake to top off the evening.
This morning, Francis and I had 7 miles to run, and while it was supposed to be a pace run, we decided to take it pretty easy after running fast on Wednesday. We ran along Cherry Creek Trail and past the REI, where I earlier today spent a good chunk of my Economic Stimulus Package monies preparing for a backpacking trip this summer. We were surprised to finish in 52:40, which is just about a 7:30 mile. We talked the entire time, and at mile 5, my heart rate was about 130. The training is going well.
